Selling a few million copies of his band's latest album, The Black Parade? Easy done. Real life, that's the hard part.

"I constantly have to redefine what real life is for myself," says Way, half an hour after stepping off stage at a German gig where My Chemical Romance supported the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

"I'm still homeless, and it's starting to get to a point where it's getting really old, and I really need to settle down somewhere.

"I mean, I'm a very unattached person, so I could kind of drift wherever I want, which is a great, liberating feeling. But sometimes when you're home off the road, if you don't have a home, you start to feel like you're still on tour."

Only a month ago, things appeared to be different.

Spotted wearing a ring on his left ring finger at a European festival, Way admitted he was engaged.

The lucky lady was reportedly Eliza Cuts, a stylist for the band.

So is Way now attached to a person, if not a place?

"No I'm actually not. So . . ." he pauses, the noise of the Chili Peppers taking to the German stage filling the silence. "Sometimes things don't work out," he eventually says.

While the pressures of life as a touring musician would be obvious contributors to the split, Way refuses to make excuses.

"I don't know how much of it is being in a touring band or how much of it is other things. You know, it's easy to always chalk it up to being in a touring band, but it's hard to say.

"It's just that things, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't work. You just roll with it."

If Way is rolling with it, his fans have been a little more, shall we say, hysterical about the engagement.

The message board meltdowns went something like this: "She is one lucky bitch!"

"He broke my heart and I thought that once I met him I would be the one."

"I just died a little bit inside."

"Way to break every little goth punk girl's heart, Way." And that's just the printable stuff.

"I got a little bit of wind of it," Way says of the frenzy that greeted news of his engagement.

"I think it was big news more so for the fact that people really couldn't figure out my sexual orientation for the last six years," he says, laughing.

"So I think that, if anything, it gave them a lot of answers.

"When we were on Taste of Chaos (tour), there were people I met in other bands that didn't even think I had relationships or anything, they thought I was some bizarre dude that just locks himself in a coffin every night."

He was considered by his Taste of Chaos screamo peers, Way surmises, as "some kind of bizarre, over-driven, asexual weirdo".

It's not hard to imagine Way – whose latest extracurricular activity has been creating a comic book series called The Umbrella Academy, due out in September – getting so caught up in his music and drawing to not notice the willing ladies knocking on the door of the tour bus.

But surely, given the obsessive nature of My Chem's devotees, and their ever-increasing numbers, Way eventually woke up and began to take advantage of the sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll that had landed on his doorstep?

"No," he says. "The drugs – for sure. But the drugs were different – I had always had a problem with drinking, being in a band or not.

"I didn't take advantage of any of that stuff, like groupies, because I was in a committed relationship at the time (the band began) for a long time, and I had a lot of respect for who I was with.

"Aside from that, it never interested me. It was all about the show, the creation, the moment and the movement. So I didn't really care. Being very unattached right now, I still don't care about that stuff."

In contrast to Way's all-too brief engagement, the singer's little brother, My Chem's bassist Mikey, was married in March.

Since then, My Chem have been touring without Mikey, allowing him to settle into married life with his wife Alicia. (Way assures that his brother will be back on deck by the time the band reaches Australia in late November).

At 30, Way is three years older than Mikey, and admits that watching his younger brother get hitched provoked some strange feelings.

"It's an interesting perspective because, being the oldest, people assume you're getting married first, you're going to have kids first.

"So, it was definitely a sign that I was getting older, even before my birthday," he laughs.

Way hit the big 30 in April.

"I actually really looked forward to it, and I was very content. I got a sense of peace from turning 30," he says.

"I've met a couple of people who are obsessed with retaining their youth and Botox and everything. Each one of those age lines is an experience. Each one of those grey hairs is a good or a bad time you had to go through.

"I think it's gross that you would want to reverse the ageing process, when in fact ageing is what makes you more and more special."

The ageing process has certainly worked its magic on My Chemical Romance's music, as the great leap between their breakthrough, 2004's Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, and last year's staggering rock concept album, The Black Parade, showed.

And yet, the band's next musical movement is the last thing on Way's mind.

"This is probably the first time in the band's career where I'm not personally putting a big pressure on thinking about what's next," he says. "We have big dreams, but our big dreams were, being a cult band, having our own audience, playing a long time, and having something really small and special.

"So once we exceeded all that rather quickly, we really stopped thinking about what was next."

What is next is a tour of North America as the No.2 act on Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution package tour. Way is looking forward to being a support act again.

They did that just recently for Muse – helping the Brits reopen London's Wembley Stadium.

Way, who says he feels "naked" when performing in front of another band's audience, jokes that the Muse experience "was more terrifying than naked".

It reminded him of the time when My Chemical Romance were barely three months old, and received a last-minute call to open for emo supremos Jimmy Eat World in New Jersey.

"That was for 15,000, and we had just played a basement for like eight kids," he laughs. "So playing Wembley felt a lot like that show. We came out and it was 'Woah, this is a lot of other peoples' fans'."

During Mama at the end where
he "cries" he dragged the crying out
longer than needed and kept
repeating "I'm soooo upset. Boo Hoo.
I'm sooo saaaad." And after he
stopped "crying" he looked at the
camera with this smirk that said
"To hell I am!"

Here is a translation of the Norwegian interview that confirms this:

Gerard arrived in dark sunglasses, black clothing and black hair to the interview in the backstage-area at Hove. With a becoming, but absolutely not exaggerated arrogance, he told us willingly about the expectations to tonights concert and his relationship to the Norwegian fans.

-We've unfortunately never been to Norway before, but I think our relationship with our Norwegian fans is the same as with fans from other parts of the world. We care about them, and we owe it to them to do our best. Our fans are intelligent people.

He promised that the band would deliver on stage too and that he thought it was exciting that so many people wanted MCR to come to the Hove festival.
He loves to stand in front of an ecstatic audience and to watch how they react when the band enters the stage.

Gerard Way really wanted to watch the canadian punk-rockers in Billy Talent, who played before them on the mainstage.
The two bands have been following each other on several festivals this summer, and have become friends. When they play
on the same place, they always try to catch each others shows.

-I'm a huge fan of Billy Talent, I've liked them for a long time. I'm watching their show tonight.
I'm so bad at remembering names of songs, but the first song on the first album I liked right away.

But you don't remember the name?

-No, of course I don't. But it stuck to my head, and I've been a fan ever since.

Gerard makes it clear that he won't answer stupid questions, and he doesn't like it when journalists always ask about
his hair and other 'silly questions'. So the journalist felt quite awkward when she asked a question about
Gerard's marriage plans. [He announced the engagement a week ago, his brother Mikey is on his
honeymoon and could unfortunately not be at Hove, so it seemed like a relevant question], and the reply was:

-Actually, I'm not engaged anymore.. That's just something that happens.

After a short and very awkward moment with silence, we might as well ask the ultimate question, that only fans that have seen MCR's dvd would understand.
On the the dvd, Gerard gets a hamster cage for Christmas and he promises to buy a hamster to put in it.

Did you get the hamster?

-That's not a stupid question question at all! No, unfortunately not..
I had a hamster when I was younger and would have wanted one now too,
it's just that I'm afraid I'll kill it on the tour bus, he says, and tells us that
he loves animals, but that he has extreme cat allergy. So a cat is then,
with other words, out of the question for the American rockstar.

-I love animals, but I can't guarantee that they get along as well with me.
I hope so....Gerard chuckles, before he sneaks out with his dark sunglasses
and agrees to a short photo session with a fan.

Hi

I felt I had to write to you guys to allay some of your fears regarding the rumours and speculation surrounding Gerard and Eliza and the future of the band.

This is the only time I will ever post. I will not be able to respond to your comments or enter into discussion or debate on what I'm about to say.

We are aware that this is one of the most popular message boards for MCR fans and we know you guys are the most dedicated and loyal fans in the world. It saddens me to see such division amongst the fans over one woman. If it's any consolation, you guys are not the only ones affected. She is merely tolerated by both band and crew. Believe me, nothing anyone can say will change his mind. She's been the cause of numerous conflicts and while we dont have to like it, we have to accept it, at least for the forseeable future.

From day one this woman has had a hidden agenda - her manipulation knows no bounds. Some of you may find this difficult to believe but I assure you I have personally witnessed the two sides of this woman. Her so-called 'good deeds' are nothing more than PR exercises for his benefit. But he does not see what goes on behind closed doors.

We have tried to draw his attention to her blatant self-promotion and diva demands. This is a prime example of love being blind. His feelings for her do run very deep. Her feelings for him, however, are questionable at best. Many people believe, including myself, that he is being used as nothing more than a stepping stone. It's disheartening to see someone you care about and have worked with for a very long time change as a person, becoming more detached and causing the group dynamic to change as a result.

There have been conflicts and differences of opinions and compromises have had to be made She does not accompany the band on the European legs of the tour. Since being on this current European leg, he seems much happier which suggest she doesnt make him as happy as he thinks.

Despite being asked more than once to remain discreet, she blatantly disregards his wish to keep his personal life private by continually fuelling the internet hype. The band has always been about the music and the fans. This will not change. MCR have never endorsed any type of clique as it encourages and promotes the kind of high school mentality that MCR have always fought against.

Your continued support is appreciated and rest assured this woman will have no adverse affect on the band and the music. For obvious reasons I am remaining anonymous.

Eliza, we know you trawl these message boards and you probably know who I am - but I'd like to see you try and prove it!!!

I posted my journal speculating whether my Eliza was just after Gerard for fame/fortune.
Along with some potential evidence..

So when I went to check my page just now, IT'S NOT THERE!

I know it wasn't just some "error". I know that one of the administrators deleted it or asked for it to be deleted, probably by Eliza or a friend of hers, we all know that she has some very close friends on here. Including Jeffree Star, Audrey Kitching, Alicia Simmons, Miss E, Sarah Dope etc..

All of which I have on my friends list, so they must have gotten the message about the journal.

Oh, not to mention messages are down now, so i can't send one out to let everyone know about this, well not right now anyway.

This isn't the first time I have been shunned by the Buzznet administrators.
A while ago, I sent a note to Mark, aka Panasonicyouth, asking him why Kiki Kannibal was on "e-scene" because I could tell she was just some underage girl trying to get e-famous and sell her crappy jewellery, which is fine, I don't care, but what I can't stand is fakes, and it's obvious all her earlier "ideas" are blatantly stolen from Audrey Kitching.
Anyway, he replied, saying it wasn't his decision to put Kiki up there and asked whether I had any solid evidence that she copies Audrey.

So I sent him a message containing photos of this "evidence" he asked for, and he went crazy, he couldn't believe how right I was and called me amazing that I had figured it out (like it was that hard) and asked if he could publish it in a feature journal because he "loves controversy", he also said I'd get credit for it.

After that I dropped Audrey a note telling her about a journal that mentioned her which would be featured the next day (as Mark promised), she seemed excited and said she would take a look at it.

A week later, the journal was not yet posted, I thought he might have just forgotten, but it turns out he just didn't post it. I messaged him asking why not, and he never replied. I didn't care that the journal wasn't posted, it was just a stupid journal, but he just never replied to me after that.
I guess it's his duty to protect his precious e-scene, or "buzzalicious", whatever they call themselves these days.

I won't be surprised if this journal gets deleted too.

UPDATE: Mark messaged me and told me he deleted my journal.
Apparently I made a death threat and it is against the Buzznet Terms of Use.
Everyone knows I was only joking about "killing Eliza", and I wasn't the only one saying it.
I don't hate Eliza at all, I was just posting info that I found.
Who took it seriously and thought I would go to LA and hunt down and kill Eliza Cuts?

Fall Out Boy
Vodaphone Arena, Melbourne 7/3/2007

It's taken Fall Out Boy a long time to make their maiden voyage Down Under, and it was slated to be the show of the year. We should have left raving about how Fall Out Boy are the greatest band in the world, knowing every show to follow would be compared to this. Instead, as the masses filed out, there was only one word swirling around my mind: Disappointing.

Infinity On High, their latest release, helped set FOB apart from their contemporaries as they produced an album with exceptional vocals, are hard to find trait these days. It was disappointing to realise they would never be emulated in the live arena. Patrick Stump sounded like a dog whining for the attention, rather than the frontman of one of the world's biggest bands.

It was disappointing that the overwhelming sentiment flowing from the stage was that every move was choreographed - every jump, every spin, every side swap, every word, and every raised fist. For a band claiming they love spontaneity of live shows, it felt awfully calculated.

It was dissapointing that they played for just under and hour. The devoted FOB army who'd waited a long time for this show should have felt short-changed by this minimal effort. I, however, thought that was a Godsend. Which brings me to my next disappointment - the fact the band failed to maintain momentum through a 60 minute set. Perhaps providing they're a singles band, there was a slump in the set after opening with "Sugar", "We're Going Down" and "Our Lawyer Made Us..." the set filler (including "Thriller", "Grand Theft Autumn", "XO" and "Sophomore Slump...") lulled the crowd into sleepiness and it took till breakthrough single "This Ain't A Scene" to bring them back to life. Perhaps, though, the most disappointing part was the introduction of their friend 'Dirty' to the stage just prior to the encore. Dressed as a cricketer, audience members were invited to beat him with a cricket bat. While it would have been an excellent way to release frustration at the poor performance, apparently it was just their mediocre imitation of Jackass.

Hopefully, one day soon, Fall Out Boy will realise they're underestimating their fans' expectations and intelligence, and hopefully one day soon Fall Out Boy's fans will realise they're just being fleeced because there's nothing of substance being offered up yet.
